As we reached the final days of camp, we found ourselves surrounded by Bunnies who were not quite ready to say goodbye. So many of our Bunnies were telling us they wanted to stay at camp forever, and hearing that was the sweetest reminder of just how special this place has become to them. At our final camp-wide Music Fest, the Bunnies and Froggies had the chance to show the Kangas and Tigers exactly why we look forward to Music Fest every week. They sang along enthusiastically to all of their favourite songs, and we ended Music Fest with Fox leading everyone in “Home” by Phillip Phillips. It was a beautiful moment of the entire camp coming together and a fitting reminder that camp can become a home away from home. One of our Bunnies captured that feeling perfectly at pickup when she ran up to all of her counsellors and asked, “Please, please come back next summer so I can see you!” Those moments are exactly why we already cannot wait to welcome our campers back next summer and watch them grow, year after year.
Our specialists kept the Bunnies busy, curious, creative, and laughing right through the final week. In Science, the Bunnies learned about the water cycle by making Shaving Cream Clouds and singing the water cycle song. In Arts & Crafts with Vine, their creativity ran wild as they painted colourful fireworks. Recording with Echo was, as always, a huge hit, with the Bunnies getting to sing their hearts out to their favourite songs. And in Sports with Jay, there was plenty of laughter and energy to finish off the summer! If you’re looking for a little camp conversation at home, ask your Bunny: “Did you sing with your friends in Recording? What song did you sing?” or “What colours did you paint your fireworks?”
Our LAST Hop Hop Hooray was especially meaningful because we wanted to celebrate something at the heart of the Bunny experience: their cabin families. Throughout the week, we took special cabin pictures and then created beautiful cabin picture frames for the Bunnies to take home with their photos. The Bunnies also got to do Tie Dye, and they absolutely loved choosing their colours and watching their visions come to life. It was a Hop Hop Hooray to remember, and a lovely reminder of the community the Bunnies have created this summer!
There was plenty happening at Schmooze this week, too! While we did not have any Bunnies take home a Minute to Win It victory or a Tuesday Trivia win, the Bunnies certainly had something to cheer about on Wednesday. The final three competitors in Wednesday Warrior were all Bunny staff—Dream, Fizz, and Burmy! The competition started with a balance competition and for the final two, it came down to a puzzle. Fizz came out on top after completing it first and earning the title of August Wednesday Warrior. But for the Bunnies, the real victory was getting to watch their counsellors compete. They were completely invested and so excited to cheer them on that, by the end, it hardly mattered who won. It was one of the most exciting Schmooze moments of the week simply because their counsellors were up there competing!
We also had two wonderful Bunny recognitions. Madelyn (B2) won a silly Banana for her fantastic Hershey Bar costume. And Naya (B2) won a Big Chair for going out of her way to show kindness and bravery and for making sure that every Bunny around her felt included and welcomed at camp.
Staff Celebration Moment: Burmy
Burmy is someone who goes above and beyond in everything she does, and this week was no exception. She created a special second unit program called “Burmy’s Best Buds.” Nibbles the Bunny, sent a letter to camp telling the Bunnies he needed some new friends. The Bunnies got to stuff their very own plushies and then send them off to be sewn up and brought home. Her enthusiasm is endless, her kindness is constant, and she brings a level of excitement to the everyday moments of camp that makes Bunnies feel seen, valued, and appreciated. We are incredibly lucky to have Burmy helping make the Bunny experience what it is, and she makes the Bunnies unit and camp a better place. Thank you Burmy!
