Office Administrator: Spooky (She/Her)

Watch out AVDC, Spooky is back! This will be Spooky’s sixth summer at AVDC, where she’s been a rock star counsellor, a program specialist, and a Unit Head. She is now returning for a new challenge as our Front Desk Administrator. Around camp, Spooky is known for being able to be in ten places at once, providing support for everyone and anyone simultaneously. She is always on the lookout for campers and staff who need a little bit of extra help, and graciously supports them without having to be asked. Since graduating from Trent University with a Child & Youth Studies / Psychology degree in 2020, Spooky has worked as an ECE at a daycare in Toronto… until she could no longer resist camp calling her back home!

Spooky loves malls and can often be found doing thorough investigations of random small-town malls across Ontario. But come Autumn, you will find her at Spirit of Halloween, getting excited with all the Spooky gear coming into season!

Daffodil
Daffodil: Head of Bunnies (Them/They)

Daffodil has been at Adventure Valley for longer than anyone can truly remember. They started their camp journey as a camper and worked their way through the ranks: from camper to leader-in-training to volunteer counsellor to staff! They are now completing the ‘circle of (camp) life’ as our Bunnies Unit Head. Daffodil has been a counsellor with our youngest campers since their first year as staff. They have a unique ability to form a bond with each and every camper, and makes each child feel special. They can often be found with a camper in their lap, guiding them through some big feelings with empathy and love. Daffodil is currently working on their English Literature degree at York University. Their goal is to become a teacher or a social worker – and spend the rest of their life working with their beloved kiddos!

Daffodil loves books and reading… but can’t stand unfaithful movie adaptions of their favourites. They are still getting over the major story changes in the 2010 movie adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. (If anyone knows anyone in Hollywood please ask them to stay far far away from Ottoline and the Yellow Cat!)
Sparrow: Head of Kangas & Sunshine Program Coordinator (She/Her)

Ahoy, me hearties! We’re so excited to welcome Sparrow back to her Unit Head role. This year she will lead our Kanga Unit, as well as oversee the Sunshine program. This summer Sparrow celebrates her sixth summer at AVDC! She is known around camp for her genuine care for others and her incredible skills with our Sunshine campers. Since graduating from Trent University with a Child & Youth Studies / Psychology degree in 2020, Sparrow has been working as a support person for children with exceptionalities. She is looking forward to starting her teaching degree at Western University in September, the next step in achieving her long-term goal of being a Special Education teacher.

In her spare time, Sparrow can be found researching new activities and games and emailing Ariel all her awesome camp ideas! She rarely spends more than twenty minutes not thinking about camp, and how she can contribute in new and innovative ways!

Drop
Drop: Head of Tigers & Activity Co-ordinator (He/Him)

Drop is making a triumphant return for his third summer at AVDC as our Tigers Unit Head & Activity Co-ordinator! Drop has spent every summer since he was seventeen working at various camps, where he’s been a counsellor, a one-on-one, and has run many different activities, like archery, orienteering and campfire-building!

At Adventure Valley, he has served as our soccer specialist, as a Unit Head, and as our Activity Coordinator. Drop is known around camp for making campers giggle with glee while he calls them “silly goose”, and for displaying awesome enthusiasm and camp spirit 120% of the time. Drop has just completed his undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies at Carleton University and will be looking to join a school board as a geography teacher!

Drop focuses most of his mental energy sending good vibes to Italy’s national soccer team. He is their number one fan and does not wish to talk about their failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup. Please don’t bring that up!
Zazu: Health Centre (She/Her)

You’re safe with us, Adventure Valley – Health Centre Maven Zazu is here! Zazu will be returning to AV for her fourth summer, her third as our trusted Health Center staff! Having recently finished her B.Sc. Nursing degree at Trent University, Zazu is waiting to write her examinations and join the workforce! Her ultimate goal is to work at SickKids in the ER, NICU or paediatric oncology units. Zazu is known around camp for her calming and nurturing approach. She is super-experienced at fixing boo-boos, tummy aches, and “I-miss-mama/dada-itis” (and is always ready for anything more urgent to come her way!)

Zazu, our quiet and caring friend, surprises us all for her love and fascination with horror movies!
