Kangas Week 6

Happy end of Week 6 Kangas!

Coming off the long weekend the Kangas proved that they know how to make the most of their time at AV, even with only 4 days!

From the moment they hopped off the bus or out of the car each morning, the energy was sky-high and the laughter non-stop.

Whether it was building new things at Fimo, or trying new Dance moves with Ballet, the Kangas jumped into each activity with determination, words of encouragement to their peers, and great attitudes.

The Kangas showed that even short week can be packed with adventure, growth, and unforgettable memories!

Every week our campers get to spend an entire period all together for a unit wide activity- Jivin’ Joeys! This week the Kangas had a very special Jive, planned and facilitated by an Kangas 2 Counsellor: Sprout!

Sprout wanted to plan something special for his very last week at AV, and came up with an awesome scavenger hunt for all of the Kangas to complete. Everyone has a blast and the Kangas really appreciated all of Sprout’s hard work.

We will miss you, Sprout!

This week we skipped, hopped, and jumped right into Flora & Fauna week, and the Kangas really let their creativity shine, with some of the best costumes yet.

Everyone’s hard work on their costumes paid off at Schmooze on Friday, with too many Silly Bananas to count!

On Friday we also got to shout-out our Big Chair winners of the week…

Zoey and Abigail! Congratulations Kangas!

The Kangas were full of examples of true community this week! It was so hard to choose just one to spotlight, but when our Big Chair’s were recognized at Schmooze, it was clear that this whole week was one big example of an amazing community!

As Ariel read off their names and their awesome acts of kindness, the rest of the Kangas erupted with cheers. The smiles on everyone’s faces were huge as their peers were recognized for being such great people, and ended in a massive group hug!

Everywhere you looked, campers were lending a hand, offering words of encouragement, and going out of their way to make sure everyone felt included.

From helping new friends learn the ropes to celebrating each other’s successes big and small, the Kangas showed that kindness and care are at the heart of everything we do together.

Staff Celebration Moment

This week, the Kanags Staff Shoutout goes out to an incredible specialist & Cabin Care Bear turned Kangas Counsellor for the week… RIO!

You can usually find Rio on the field instructing Martial Arts, but this week, Kangas 3 were lucky enough to have her as their Counsellor. Rio brings so much positivity and energy to every activity, and goes above and beyond to make sure that everyone gets the most out of their AV experience. Her enthusiasm for AVDC and genuine care for her campers is clear in every interaction whether she is cheering her campers on or supporting them through big emotions.

We love you Rio!

Caregiver Question of the Week

Q: What is a Silly Banana?

A: A Silly Banana is one of our special Radtagz charms that campers can earn – never buy! Every Friday at camp is Costume Day, with a different theme each week. Campers who show up in especially fun, creative, and unique costumes have the chance to be awarded a Silly Banana tag for their bracelet. It’s a way to celebrate imagination, effort, and a little bit of camp silliness!
