It’s hard to believe we are wrapping up Week 6; time really does fly by when you are having fun! This week, our Kangas campers truly went for the gold as we celebrated Olympics week. From the moment the torch was lit, the Kangas were “on track” for a week filled with teamwork, determination, and a whole lot of fun. As always, the sense of community was at the heart of every activity, with campers cheering each other on and celebrating both big and small victories. This week, the Kangas embraced the power of positivity and it was truly contagious! Whether they were encouraging a friend during archery, spreading smiles in yoga, or drumming up good vibes, our campers showed that a positive attitude can make all the difference. They faced every challenge with optimism, turning obstacles into opportunities and lifting each other up with kind words and enthusiastic cheers. Positivity became the driving force behind their successes, creating an uplifting environment where everyone felt supported and inspired. It was a shining example of how a positive mindset can bring out the best in us all!
From drama to gymnastics, from dance to racquet rallies, the Kangas tried so many new things and had smiles on their faces throughout the day. The archery range was abuzz with excitement as campers took aim and shot for the stars. With each arrow that hit the target, their confidence grew, and so did the cheers from their fellow campers. The camaraderie was palpable as everyone supported one another, proving that, in the spirit of the Olympics, it’s not just about hitting the bullseye but about encouraging your teammates to do their best. Yoga offered a moment of calm amidst the Olympic excitement, with campers stretching their minds and bodies in unison. Drumming brought a rhythmic element to our week, with campers coming together to create beats that echoed harmony throughout the camp. Nature was a big hit with the Kangas because they had the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, discovering the beauty of the natural world and some of our special friends, the Cicadas. Dance was another big hit across the Kangas cabin this week, where they got to show off their dance moves doing a bingo themed scavenger hunt, where each bingo square had a different dance move that they had to do with different counselors across camp.
Community in the Kangas cabins was on full display this week, as campers worked together to master the art of making boondoggle keychains. When one camper was struggling to get the hang of it, another camper quickly stepped in to help, offering patient guidance and encouragement. The teaching camper reassured them by saying, “We can do hard things,” turning a moment of frustration into one of shared learning and support. This simple yet powerful interaction highlighted the strength of our Kangas community, where campers lift each other up, tackle challenges together, and celebrate every small victory as a team. Although it was a short week, our community was stronger than ever, proving that community is at the core of everything we do. During Fun With Frizzle this week, campers were cheering their teammates on while it was their turn during our relay race, cheering their names and encouraging them. It was an amazing sight to see, all four cabins cheering on their teammates.
This week during our unit programming, Fun with Frizzle, we took an Olympic twist this week as the four Kangas cabins competed for the gold medal in a series of thrilling events. The competition kicked off with a ball toss, where campers showed off their aim by throwing bean bags with precisions. Next, they tested their aerodynamics skills in the plane throw, crafting paper airplanes and aiming them through various points-scoring circles. The excitement peaked during the relay race, where the gym erupted with cheers as campers encouraged their teammates to give it their all. For their relay race, they had to throw a hula hoop, jump inside it, and then bring it over their heads before throwing it again until they reached the end of the line. The energy was electric, and every camper gave it their best shot. In the end, Kangas 1 soared to victory, taking home the gold, while K2 and K4 tied for second place, taking home the silver and K3 secured the bronze. It was a fun-filled day of friendly competition, teamwork, and plenty of laughs, with the Kangas unit showing once again that they’re all champions in their own right.
This week during Schmooze, we had another week filled with Kangas cheering on their Kangas counselors during a variety of activities. We started the week off with Tuesday Trivia, where campers had to put their Olympics knowledge to the test. We battled it out, but it was Bunnies 3 who came up with the win and won the coveted freezy party. During Wednesday Warrior, we had counselors jumping and bear crawling of their opponents to make it to the next round. We are eagerly awaiting to see who the August winner of Wednesday Warrior is. For Thursday’s Thingys, we had a counselor vs counselor handball game. Campers cheered on the two teams and it was a close race between Team Drop and Team Keys, but it was Team Keys that came up with the win. Although it was a short Schmooze week, it was jam packed with fun. We celebrated birthdays, cheered and danced our hearts out. We ended the week, celebrating three silly bananas and three big chair winners in Kangas this week. We can’t wait for another week of fun next week!
Staff Celebration Moment: Celebrating Rocket
This week, we’re celebrating Rocket, whose energy and dedication make him a true force around camp. Rocket is known for building incredible connections with campers, taking the time to nurture their interests and support their growth. Whether he’s leading an activity, offering words of encouragement, or simply being there to lend a hand, Rocket’s positive impact is felt by everyone. His genuine care and commitment to the campers and his fellow staff make him an invaluable member of our AV family. As one camper in K1 said, Rocket is the best!
Caregiver Question of the Week
My camper doesn’t like what’s coming up on the menu for lunch. Can I send snack/lunch from home?
Absolutely. Please ensure that what you send is nut safe!
Warm regards,
