Theme: Mighty Machines
This week, the Tigers were firing on all cylinders as we dove into our Mighty Machines theme! From bulldozers to fire trucks and everything in between, our campers explored the world of powerful machines that help build and move the world forward. They built robots, created their own Rube Goldberg machines, and geared up on friday as their favourite machines! Our focus of the week was flexibility! The Tigers demonstrated this quality throughout the week but one time especially is when Tigers 1 and Tigers 2 both were on the soccer field at the same time. Instead of one group having to leave, they decided to play a T1 vs. T2 soccer game! They were able to be flexible and change their original plan, and had a blast because of it!
The Tigers tried out a whole fleet of exciting activities this week, shifting from one activity to the next with enthusiasm. From archery to crazy science, there was always something new to discover. One activity really revved their engines – Gaga Ball! Gaga Ball quickly became a Tiger favourite, with campers lining up at the pit and ready to roll the moment the ball hit the ground. Drama was another top pick, as the Tigers embarked on a show-stopping scavenger hunt around the property. Along the way, they discovered the magic behind famous musicals like Wicked, Cats, and Hairspray!
This week in Sizzle Shenanigans, our weekly Tigers unit time, the Tigers learned about the power of machines. They rotated through a circuit of four machine-themed games that got their gears turning and imaginations spinning. The campers worked together to act out machines, like a washing machine, blender, cement truck and toaster in Machine Charades. The acting was complete with sound effects and teamwork! In Gear Tag, every time someone was tagged, they had to connect to the person who tagged them, forming one giant, moving machine across the field. Then they became human Rube Goldberg machines, each camper performing a silly action that triggered another camper’s move, like a reaction of creativity! The circuit was completed by a special machine edition of Huckle Buckle. The counsellors called out different machines and the Tigers had to quickly build those machines using only their bodies – imagine groups becoming bulldozers and forklifts in seconds! After all that action, the Tigers switched gears and got crafty by designing their very own mini class machines.
Community runs deep within the Tigers, where friendships and memories are built to last long after camp ends. These bonds shine through in everyday moments, whether it’s helping each other clean up, starting conversations with someone new, or sharing a simple high-five after an activity. One perfect example of the Tigers’ strong sense of community happened during pickup, when all four cabins were gathered on the soccer field. One group had started a game of Ninja, and instead of keeping it small, they invited everyone to join in. It turned into a mega, four-cabin showdown filled with laughter and fun. It was a beautiful reminder of the community within Tigers.
Congratulations are in order for our Tigers this week! Amélie and Cole both won a silly banana this week, our award we give out to the campers with the most creative costumes. With Amélie showing up as a tractor and Cole a Go Train, they both have a silly banana charm to add to their RagTag collection! Our big chairs are given to our exemplary campers who are role models to the whole camp! Hailey was our big chair winner this week, awarded for her kindness, inclusivity, and positivity. Congratulations Amélie, Cole, and Hailey.
