Tigers Week 3

Theme: AVDC Music Awards

The Tigers turned up the volume and tuned into an unforgettable week of camp all centered around the magic of music! Campers got to create their own songs, design their own album covers, and even watch some live music performances by their counsellors. Our quality of the week was perseverance and the Tigers embodied it in everything they did. Whether it was completing a challenging arts and crafts project or staying focused during an intense game of Gaga Ball, our campers showed incredible determination and resilience. Instead of giving up when things got tough, they encouraged and supported each other. One standout demonstration of perseverance came after our Silly Banana and Big Chair award ceremony at Shmooze on Friday. A Tiger camper who hadn’t received either award stood tall and smiled, saying, “That’s play, I’m going to try again next week!” Her positive attitude and growth mindset were a perfect example of what perseverance looks like in action, and it reminded us all that the journey is just as important as the recognition.

Throughout the week, the Tigers dove into an exciting mix of camp activities that kept them energized and inspired! During yoga, they practiced mindfulness and movement, learning relaxation techniques and poses like downward dog to help them feel calm and centered. In drumming, the campers explored rhythm and beat, working together to create their own group performances that had everyone tapping along. Over at Fimo Fun, creativity was in full swing as the Tigers designed and sculpted their own miniature musical instruments to take home as keepsakes. And of course, Gaga Ball remained a fan favourite, with Tigers lining up for round after round.

During this week’s Sizzle Shenanigans, our weekly unit time, the Tigers let their musical sides shine in an epic Lip Sync Battle! Each group got to choose a song, choreograph their own dance moves, and perform in front of the unit. From Thunderstruck by AC/DC to the Cha Cha Slide by Dj Casper, the Tigers went all out—lip syncing every word with confidence and style. The field transformed into a full-blown concert stage as campers cheered each other on, hyped up their friends, and brought serious star power to the show. It was all about teamwork, creativity, and having a blast performing like true music icons! After the Lip Sync Battle, the Tigers tapped into their inner superstars by creating portraits of their popstar alter egos! On one side of the page, they coloured a picture of themselves as they are, and on the other, they transformed into their ultimate music persona, complete with flashy outfits, wild hairstyles, and cool stage names. From glittery rockstars to funky DJs, each creation was as unique and imaginative as the camper who made it!

The sense of community within the Tigers is incredibly strong. This strong bond shines through in everyday moments, especially when the Tigers come together to support one another. A perfect example of this was when all the Tigers groups joined forces to clean up the den. Instead of seeing it as a chore, the campers worked side by side, sharing laughs, encouraging each other, and dividing tasks so everyone could contribute. Younger campers looked up to the older ones for guidance, while the older kids made sure everyone felt included and valued.

The Tigers were full of star power this week, with two Silly Banana winners and two Big Chair recipients taking center stage! Our Silly Banana awards go to campers who show off the most creative and imaginative costumes and this week’s winners did not disappoint. Amélie dazzled as pop icon Sia, complete with her own mini chandelier prop, while Caroline wowed everyone with a clever self-playing piano costume that struck all the right notes! Our Big Chair awards celebrate campers who lead by example. This week, Christian earned his seat for his consistent kindness and inclusivity, making everyone feel welcome. Rebecca also claimed a Big Chair for showing incredible leadership and initiative throughout the week.

Staff Shoutout: Celebrating Fox

Each week, we love to shine the spotlight on one of our incredible staff members who goes above and beyond—and this week, it’s Fox! Fox brings energy, heart, and creativity to everything she does, making sure each of her campers feels seen, supported, and celebrated. She takes the time to truly get to know every child in her group, creating a welcoming and personalized camp experience for all. This week, Fox went the extra mile by dressing up as Luke Combs, complete with a live guitar performance! Not only did she entertain her campers with her musical talent, but she also handed over the guitar and gave them a chance to try it out themselves, sparking curiosity and confidence along the way.

Caregiver Question of the Week

Q: What happens on bad weather days (extreme heat/raining)?

A: On hot days, we put out sprinklers and have frequent water and shade breaks. On rainy days, we’ll continue programming outdoors if it’s only a light drizzle. But if the rain picks up, we shift to our rainy day locations and run indoor versions of our usual activities, ensuring the day stays active and fun—even without the sunshine!
