Froggies Week 7

What an amazing week with the Froggies. Although we’re nearing the end of the summer, their energy is still just as high as ever.

Camp spirit was through the roof, I’ve never heard such loud cheering on the shmooze field before!

Camp was buzzing with excitement at every moment; whether it was Ribbit Recess, Wednesday Warrior, or playing soccer on the field, these Froggies were hopping with energy and spreading their camp spirit to every corner of AV.

For Ribbit Recess, we had our campers design and create insect-inspired costumes for their counsellors. The creativity was one of a kind!

It was amazing to see how the Froggies, even at such a young age, have mastered collaboration. When half of Froggies 2 wanted their counsellor to be a butterfly and the other half wanted her to be a centipede, the campers decided that she could be the very first hybrid of the two: a centi-butterfly.

The costume was memorable and the campers ensured that their counsellor, Breeze, felt awesome strutting down the runway.

The week was filled with other buggy activities. For example, in Crazy Science, the campers made popscicle stick caterpillars which after metamorphosis, earned it’s tissue paper wings.

A couple of the Froggy cabins made bug crowns; thanks to their creative counsellors. They were a big hit around camp!

We saw some of the Froggies wearing those bug crowns on Friday for their costume. The costumes this Friday were fantastic! Camp was crawling with bees, ladybugs, spiders, butterflies, and cockroaches.

By Friday it was clear that it was going to be tough competition on who would win the Big Chair awards. The Big Chair is given to campers to exemplify all the traits that make camp an awesome place for all. It’s hard to decide which campers are most deserving when there are so many stories of Froggies being the kindest kids at camp.

For example, there was a Froggy who was upset that when he came back from the bathroom, because the seat he wanted at the picnic bench was taken. As tears started to come, more than half of the campers stood up all at once from their seats.

There was a chorus of kids saying, “you can have my seat!” and “I’ll move over, you can sit beside me!” It’s that kind of compassion and caring that makes an impact.

The tears quickly went away and the camper sat down with the group, happily chatting with everyone about his favourite bug: the cicada.

Staff Celebration Moment

This week, Froggies would like to celebrate Spooky!

Spooky is our Office Administrator. Most of the Froggies don’t really know what Spooky’s job title means. They just know that she’s the funniest, coolest, and most awesome staff ever!

Even though she’s at the front desk, working hard, she never passes up the opportunity to say hello to the campers, ask them how they are, and be so genuinely invested in the answer.

It’s no surprise that Spooky is in high demand at Shmooze. Campers love doing the camp dance and camp cheer with Spooky.

So thank you Spooky! Thank you for all of your hard work, your compassion for all campers, and really for everything you do to make camp the amazing place it is!

Parent Question of the Week

Can I send my camper to camp with toys?

We strongly discourage it. Toys at camp often get lost or ruined. We’ve also found that it creates more exclusionary rather than inclusionary play.

Thanks for your understanding!
