Kangas Week 3

The Kangas had a “dino-mite” third week here at camp! This past week, we traveled back in time to the land of dinosaurs, cavemen, and all things prehistoric. Our campers had a “roar-some” time engaging in a variety of fun and exciting activities. This week our Kangas worked on our quality of the week, growth mindset. Kangas were encouraged to view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles. As one of our campers said, “I don’t know how yet, but soon I will” when learning a new game during one of our cabin huddles. Kangas were embracing a growth mindset–whether they were learning to master a tricky yoga pose or trying a new skill during arts and crafts.

From Slime making to soccer, from nature to recording, the Kangas tried so many new things and had smiles on their faces throughout the day. Gaga ball was a favorite activity amongst the Kangas this week. WIth a rainy start to the week, we didn’t let that stop us from having fun. One of our cabins was disappointed on missing their turn playing gaga ball due to the rain, but a camper from another cabin decided that they could join forces to have a cabin vs cabin gaga tournament. Each match was filled with laughter and quick reflexes, as campers showcased their skills and teamwork.

It was another week where the Kangas community was vibrant and filled with many laughs and memories. Kangas were able to build a strong sense of community and friendships that will last a lifetime. One story that exemplifies this community and teamwork was during this week’s Dance activity with our dance specialist Ballet. Ballet planned an extraordinary scavenger hunt that brought campers closer together. Armed with clues, the Kangas were set on a mission to find various dance shoes hidden around camp. The thrill of the hunt was palpable as campers worked together, solving riddles and searching high and low. Once they found the shoes, the real challenge began–they had to match them to the corresponding costumes. One camper said “let’s solve them together, we can get it done quicker if we work together.” It was heartwarming to see campers helping each other, sharing the excitement of each discovery and celebrating together when they successfully completed the hunt.

During this week’s Fun with Frizzle, a unit wide activity, the Kangas could be heard cheering and singing about Dinosaurs and our favorite repeat after me song, “Hey hey Bo diddley Bop.” This has become a weekly tradition and the Kangas get so excited to add new lyrics each week to match our theme! This week, we decided we would be flying Pterodactyls! Each Kangas cabin worked together to create their very own Dinosaurs! We had so many different dinosaurs, like the Kangasaurus and Spikey the Dino. We ended our activity with a unit wide game of Dino tag, where various dinosaurs were running away from our taggers, the T-Rex!

This week during Schmooze, we had another week filled with Kangas cheering on their favorite Kangas counselors during the variety of activities. We started our week off with a camper-counselor duo for our minute to win it challenge. Campers were tasked with throwing as many marshmallows into their counselors cup, which was being balanced on their mouths. Kangas cheered and cheered to encourage our Kangas staff, Sprite but in the end, it was the Tigers who came up with the win! During this week’s Tuesday Trivia, Kangas had to put on their thinking caps to answer some Dinosaur Trivia, proving they’re real “think-a-sauruses!” This week’s Wednesday Warrior was a battle to get into the final two. We were cheering on three Kangas counselors, Boo, Gravity and Sprite. The Kangas were cheering as loud as they could while the counselors had to play keep up with their balloon while passing it back and forth through their hula hoop! We can’t wait to find out who will come up with this year’s Wednesday Warrior Win! For Thursday Thingy’s we had a special Schmooze session run by the LIT”s! It was filled with jokes and a fun counselor water race. To end off another fantastic week, we celebrated two big chair winners in Kangas! We can’t wait for another week of fun next week!
