Kangas Week 4

Time really does fly by when you are having fun. It is hard to believe that it is already half way through the summer. It was another supercharged week, where we transformed into a haven for heroes as we embraced our inner superheroes. The campgrounds were buzzing with excitement as our campers took on various heroic activities, showing that anyone can be a superhero with the right attitude and teamwork. A key focus this week was cultivating the skill of responsibility. Throughout the week, our campers embraced their roles with a sense of duty, whether they were managing their own superhero gear, taking care of the camp environment, or supporting their teammates in activities. Responsibility was woven into everything we did, from ensuring the safe use of archery equipment to the thoughtful creation of art projects. By taking ownership of their actions and looking out for one another, our campers demonstrated that true heroes are responsible both for themselves and for their community.

From drumming to slime making, from nature to flag football, the kangas tried so many new things and had smiles on their faces throughout the day. Drumming sessions were a “smash” hit, as campers created powerful rhythms that resonated throughout the camp. The beats were heroic, and the teamwork involved in creating dynamic music highlighted the sense of community that makes camp so special. A favorite activity this week for Kangas was beading and boondoggle. Campers were learning how to make various keychains, like the square and circle. Although it was tough to start, we kept reiterating that we can do hard things. Each week, counselors come up with a CIA (counselor initiated activities) for the campers in their cabin. This week, we want to shine a spotlight on K4’s CIA, where Claw and Owl created a scavenger hunt to help our recording specialist Keys get out of the recording room. You could hear K4 laughing and working together to find clues around camp to help Keys get out of the recording room.

The power of community was on full display this week when a camper in K1 achieved a major milestone by winning the coveted big chair. As the camper’s name was announced, the entire group erupted in cheers, creating an electrifying atmosphere of support and excitement. The camper sprinted up the schmooze field, greeted by chants of encouragement and celebration from his cabin mates. Upon receiving the charm for their bracelet, the camper was met with a heartwarming group hug from their fellow campers, encapsulating the essence of our camp community. This moment perfectly illustrated the incredible camaraderie and unwavering support that define our Kangas Unit, proving that together, we achieve more and celebrate each other’s victories with genuine joy and pride.

During this week’s Fun with Frizzle, we did not let the thunder and rain get us down. We adapted and moved our activities indoors to create some amazing comics. Campers were able to get in touch with their creative side and create their very own comic books. From the Adventures of Valley Girl to the mysteries of chipmunks, the Kangas put on their thinking camps to create amazing comics.

This week during Schmooze, we had another week filled with Kangas cheering on their favorite Kangas counselors during the variety of activities. We started off our week with a camper-counselor duo for our minute to win it challenge. Counselors had one minute to do as many squats as possible with their camper on their back. We had a tie with Valkyrie and Patch, where our tiebreaker was wheelbarrow push ups and Patch came up with the win. For this week’s Tuesday Trivia, campers put on their thinking caps and had a “heroic” time answering questions about famous superheroes and their adventures. It was a “marvel-ous” display of knowledge and teamwork. For Wednesday Warrior, we had our July finale where Patch and Taffy battled it out. Taffy ended up with the win and we can’t wait for the next round of Wednesday Warrior next week. For this week’s Thursday Thingy’s, we had another Lip Sync Battle, where our counselors danced it out to win the coveted Dabbing Dino’s. We ended our week with celebrating two big chair winners in Kangas and a silly banana winner. We can’t wait for another week of fun next week!

Staff Celebration: Celebrating Gravity

This week, we want to shine a spotlight on Gravity. Gravity embodies the spirit of camp and is a constant source of joy and energy. She is always participating enthusiastically in camp activities like lip synch battles and Wednesday Warrior. Her radiant smile and boundless enthusiasm are infectious, creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for everyone. Gravity’s dedication to building a strong community with our campers makes her an invaluable part of our team.

Caregiver Question of the Week

Where do I pick up my camper, if I am picking them up early?

Park in the west parking lot and give us a call to let us know you are here. Please wait by the Adventure Valley sign and we will bring out your camper. Please do not start walking towards the camp, we will bring out the campers for you.

Warm regards,

Frizzle
