Step right up and join the fun–this week was nothing short of a “cirque-sational” success! The Kangas campers became the ringleaders of their own spectacular adventures, showcasing their creativity, bravery, and teamwork in a week filled with fun and excitement. The sense of community was as strong as ever, with each camper playing an essential role in making this week unforgettable. This week, Kangas exemplified the quality of perseverance, embodying a never-give-up attitude in all their activities. In gymnastics, they tackled difficult routines, working tirelessly to perfect their flips and landings. Each day, they faced challenges head-on, demonstrating that perseverance is not about perfection but continuously striving to improve and not giving up, no matter how tough the task. As we say here at camp, practice makes progress!
From arts & crafts to martial arts, from yoga to racquet rallies, the Kangas tried so many new things and had smiles on their faces throughout the day. Kangoo Kids had everyone bouncing with joy, as campers leaped and bounded with the energy of a circus trampoline act. The smiles were as big as the jumps, with kids relishing the thrill of defying gravity. Yoga offered a serene counterbalance to the high-energy activities, with campers finding their center and practicing balance poses that would make any tightrope walker proud. The calm and focus they cultivated was a beautiful reminder of the importance of mindfulness, even in the midst of all the circus excitement. A fan favorite activity for the Kangas this week was Martial Arts. Campers had a “kick-flip-tastic” time with Clementine, our martial arts specialist, who turned them into real “circus ninjas.” They juggled kicks and punches with the grace of acrobats, proving they could “roll with the punches” and “balance” their energy just like tightrope walkers. The class was a “ringmaster’s delight,” with every camper showing off their newfound martial arts skills and having a “smashing” good time!
The power of community in Kangas shines brightest in moments of shared support and encouragement. This week, during a heartfelt discussion about winning a big chair, one camper voiced concern about potentially missing the award ceremony because they were going to be absent on Friday. Without missing a beat, another camper reassured them, saying “we will be here cheering you on until you come back to get your award.” This simple yet profound statement perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Kangas–no matter the circumstance, we stand together and uplift one another. It’s not just about winning awards; it’s about knowing that every camper is celebrated and valued, with friends eagerly awaiting to share in their joy. This unwavering support system creates a nurturing environment where each child feels a deep sense of belonging, knowing they have a community that will always be there for them.
Community at camp extends beyond individual units, fostering a camp-wide sense of belonging where every camper feels supported and celebrated by the entire camp family. A beautiful example of this occurred when a Kangas camper celebrated his sister from the Bunnies unit winning a big chair. As her name was called, he cheered louder than anyone, his pride and excitement shining through. He then sprinted up the Schmooze field to give her a big hug, embodying the joy and love that comes with sibling support. They celebrated her achievement by dancing the camp dance together, a moment that captured the essence of our camp family.
This week, our unit-wide program, Fun with Frizzle, brought a “big top” of excitement to the Kangas Unit! The campers transformed into junior scientists, conducting a “jaw-dropping” experiment to create elephant toothpaste, which bubbled over like a true circus spectacle. Following the experiment, we channeled our inner circus performers with relay games that had campers walking like tightrope walkers, hopping like cicadas, and prowling like lions. The campers displayed their best balance, agility, and animal impressions, turning their relay course into a “three-ring circus” of fun and laughter. It was a “roaring” good time, filled with creative antics and plenty of giggles.
This week during Schmooze, we had another week filled with Kangas cheering on their Kangas counselors during a variety of activities. We started our week off with a camper-counselor duo for our minute to win it challenge. The duos were tasked with playing keep up with two balloons to see who would be this week’s Minute to Win It winners. The Tigers came up with a win this week, but the Kangas are eagerly waiting to claim the Minute to Win It Monday throne next time. During Tuesday Trivia, our campers tested their knowledge of circus related questions to win the coveted Freezy party. They worked together to try and answer as many questions as they could, but in the end, a Froggies cabin came up with the win. This week, we began a new session of Wednesday Warrior and Kangas are cheering on our Kangas counselors. We can’t wait to see who will come up with the August Wednesday Warrior Throne. During Thursday Thingy’s, we had a staff soccer match. It was an exciting match and we are thrilled that we had some Kangas counselors on the winning team. We ended our week with celebrating a big chair winner and a silly banana winner.
Staff Celebration Moment: Celebrating Buzz
This week, we’re thrilled to celebrate Buzz in Kangas. Buzz brings an incredible amount of energy, enthusiasm, and positivity to the Kangas Unit. Known for her infectious laughter and boundless creativity, Buzz is always ready to engage campers in exciting activities and ensure everyone feels included and valued. Buzz and her cabin can be heard around camp chanting, To Infinity, and Beyond! Whether she’s leading a game, helping out with Arts & Crafts, or simply lending a listening ear, Buzz’s dedication to creating a fun and supportive environment shines through. Her genuine care for each camper and her ability to connect with them makes her an invaluable member of the AVDC team.
Caregiver Question of the Week
If my camper is in extended care and I want to pick them up during regular pick up time, where can I find them?
If your camper is registered for extended care, you can find them on the playground.
Warm regards,
Frizzle
