Kangas Week 8

And that’s a wrap! It is hard to believe we are saying goodbye to summer 2024! It feels like the first day of camp was yesterday, but I guess it is true what they say, time really does fly by when you are having fun! It has been 38 days of fun and memories that will last us a lifetime; as we say here at camp “enter as strangers, leave as friends.” This week, we focused on the quality of patience. Whether it was waiting for the perfect moment to complete a tricky move in martial arts, carefully threading beads in beadology, or mastering the boondoggle circle keychain, our Kangas showed that patience truly pays off. As we wrapped up the final week, our theme, Adventure Valley Forever, perfectly captured the spirit that carries us through an unforgettable summer. From the first whistle to the final cheer, the bonds we’ve built will echo like the beats of our drumming sessions–strong, rhythmic and full of life.

From arts and crafts to Kangoo kids, from drama to dance, the Kangas made the most of their last week of the summer. Martial arts sessions were a hit, as campers learned discipline and perseverance. Beadology allowed the Kangas to channel their creativity into stunning works of art, and the drama activities brought out the performers in all of us. In Kangoo Kids, they bounced their way to new heights, not just in skill but in friendships they’ve formed. Yoga sessions brought calm and focus, helping campers reflect on the incredible journey they’ve been on together. The drumming circles echoed with the sound of unity, each beat a testament to the rhythm of camp life that we’ve all fallen in love with this summer! Having patience as our quality of the week is very fitting, as our final act of patience this year is having to wait until summer 2025 for more adventures and fun!

This week’s Fun with Frizzle, had campers running around camp for an AV themed scavenger hunt! The Kangas worked in their cabins to solve a bingo style sheet, which had clues about various counselors at camp. Once they solved the clue, they had to race against the clock and the other Kangas cabins to find the counselor and have them sign their bingo sheet. The name scavenger hunt has been a huge hit this summer, where campers run around camp trying to get as many counselors to sign their sheet as possible. To make it a little more fun and tricky for our final Fun with Frizzle, campers not only had to run around camp, they also had to solve the clue to figure out which counselor went in each box. We had some tough questions, like which counselor’s names  are an onomatopoeia and a double entendre. It was awesome to see campers working together to solve the clues and it was Kangas 4 who came up with the win!

Community was shining bright in the Kangas this week, quite literally! The power of community was evident by the sea of yellow shirts on the last day of camp! So many of our campers showed their love and spirit by dressing up as their favorite counselors. It was a heartwarming sight to see how much these bonds mean to everyone, with campers proudly emulating the role models who have made their summer unforgettable. This simple act of wearing a yellow shirt speaks volumes about the strong, supportive community we’ve built together in the Kangas unit.

This week at Schmooze we kicked off our final week of the 2024 season. To jumpstart our week, we did a camper counselor duo fitness challenge. We had campers sit on a counselors back to see how many pushups could be done in one minute. We had a special appearance in the challenge this week; Ariel couldn’t resist and had to jump in to have some fun! It was a close call, but the final minute it to win it Monday winner was Ariel! She was able to do more than 20 pushups with a camper on her back. Tuesday Trivia tested camper knowledge about Adventure Valley. It’s been a fun summer of trivia, but finally, on the last week of camp, a Kanga cabin came up with the win! Kangas 4 was so excited, their cheers could be heard all around camp for winning the coveted Freezy party! We wrapped up our August session of Wednesday Warrior with a relay race with various challenges. Our warriors, Zero and Wheels, battled it out with a fitness, math, puzzle, dice throwing and flip cup challenges to be crowned the August 2024 Wednesday Warrior. It was a great battle, but it was Wheels who came up with the win! Thursday Thingy’s had another fantastic lip sync battle, where team Claw and team Ballet battled to win the coveted dabbing dino! We had Jailhouse rock and Skater Boy performances and they each got the crowd roaring with cheer, but in the end, it was team Claw’s Jailhouse Rock performance that snagged them the dabbing dinos! As we celebrated four silly bananas and three big chair winners in Kangas, we ended our final Schmooze session of the summer with our camp dance and cheer. As we say goodbye to another camp season, the memories we’ve created will undoubtedly last forever. The laughter, the learning, and the love shared within the Kangas and across camp will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were part of this amazing summer! Thank you for being part of our Adventure Valley Family. Here’s to the endless adventures still to come!

Staff Celebration Moment: Celebrating Malibu

This week, we’re celebrating Malibu, who has truly shined since joining the Kangas unit. Malibu’s dedication to getting to know each camper on a personal level has made our campers have an unforgettable experience. Whether she’s playing alongside them in activities or bringing her infectious camp spirit to every moment, Malibu has become an integral part of our Kangas community, and we’re so grateful to have gotten to spend our summer with her!
