LITs Week 6

This week the LITs focused on building their counselling and cooperation skills. They started placement this week, and really stepped into their camp counsellor era! At their placements the LITs excelled. They helped their groups with lunch whether it be serving food or cleaning up. They also  engaged their campers at activities as they participated alongside younger cabin groups.

When the LITs were not strengthening their counselling skills on placement, they were hard at work learning the ins and outs of cooperation. How did they do that? Well, in true camp fashion they got to play a myriad of games. From cooperation capture the bean bag to a twist on football the LITs learned strategies to better cooperate. One activity in particular, the grid game, challenged the LITs to direct one another through a 4 x 4 grid based on a secret pattern they had each developed for the group. Upon reflection, the LITs learned that patience, teamwork, and good communication are all keys to successful cooperation!

When they weren’t workshopping new skills the LITs could be found at various activities around camp such as gaga ball or archery! Archery in particular turned out to be a fan favourite as the LITs took their marks and hit bullseye after bullseye.

Their community also grew stronger on a daily basis. This week the LITs took it upon themselves to develop their own secret handshake. All 13 LITs learned the handshake throughout the week. Now they can be seen all over camp practicing this elaborate and awesome handshake.

This week we had two big chair winners! The big chair is awarded to campers who demonstrate awesome qualities. These qualities include things like cooperation, leadership, courage, and many more. Congratulations to our two big chair winners!

We also had one silly banana winner! This week’s costume theme was Flora and Fauna.

A Note from Clementine (LIT Co-Ordinator)

Congratulations to all of our LITs on completing the first week of placement. We could not be more proud of the leaders you are all becoming! We are so looking forward to seeing you all continue to succeed next week.

Have an awesome weekend!

LIT Caregiver Question of the Week

Q: What is a Silly Banana?

A: The silly banana award is a Radtag charm that is only earned, never purchased! Every Friday at camp is costume day, based on the week’s theme. Campers who come with creative and unique costumes may be awarded a silly banana. The silly banana is a way to celebrate imagination, effort, and a little bit of camp silliness!

Looking forward to seeing all your costumes next week!
