Fun in LIT Land!
While the week started off stormy, there were nothing but sunny skies in LIT land. The LITs let nothing get in their way of having fun this week! The LITs started off week 3 with a burst of creativity at cartooning. Kangoo Kids was the site of an epic game of super freeze tag and of some epic LIT growth.
Last week, some of the LITs were nervous to partake in Kangoo Kids. This week was a totally different story. All of the LITs strapped on their Kangoo boots and cheered each other on. Kangoo Kids gave all of the LITs an opportunity to persevere and the best part is that they did it together.
Friday ended off the week with a bang, when the LITs made their way to drumming. Our mini Mozarts made their own beats with Hillary from Crash. We learned about different “sticking” in drumming, practiced ourselves, and then got to work writing our own rhythms and songs!
Aside from awesome activities, the LITs engaged in an epic game of Bolf. Bolf, or baseball golf, challenged the LITs to work together in teams to get a series of objects (football, ball, and beanbag) into the hole. There was a definite learning curve when it came to playing Bolf, but the LITs were more than ready to grow and learn. In fact, one LIT constantly reminded their group that trying new things is how we learn and get better at them. By the end, the LITs succeeded in winning a game of Bolf.
Leadership Training
Week three was all about the LITs stepping into their leadership power… and step into it they did!
With careful consideration the LITs hatched a plan to run the most epic schmooze event in camp history. The best part is, the LITs successfully ran Schmooze… for all of camp… by themselves. What’s even more amazing is that camp was abuzz with talk of how awesome the LIT schmooze event was.
Taking the stage with brave faces, propelled by courage, the LITs started off with some dino-themed jokes. Afterwards they decided to facilitate a water relay race. The race turned out to be a hit! Counselors raced furiously while their campers cheered them on. From there the LITs led camp in a fan favorite dance called Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones was followed by more hilarious dino-jokes. Last but certainly not least, the LITs stepped into our director Ariel’s shoes and guided camp through the camp dance and cheer!
While nervous at first, the LITs supported each other through the experience… and it was a smashing success! It is safe to say the LITs achieved their goal and ran an incredible schmooze that we will be talking about for many summers to come.
The LITs also took on their second week of placement this week.
While there were challenges, they were nothing compared to the growth-mindset of the LITs.
This week two LITs received Big Chair awards for their perseverance and growth-mindsets. These two LITs have demonstrated a dedication to learning, even in the face of hardships, and every day they showed up to their placements ready to learn and ready to have fun. Congratulations to our Big Chair winners!
