Every-bunny deserves a round of applause after this week! Between acts of kindness, dinosaur adventures, scientific eruptions, and lots of cheering for friends, the Bunnies showed us what it means to be part of a caring and supportive community. One moment that stood out took place during a game of musical chairs in B2. As campers cheered loudly with chants of “Go Bunnies 2!” for every player still in the game, one camper reached a chair first but chose to give up his spot so a new friend could continue playing. His friend was thrilled to stay in the game, and the camper was proud of his decision to put kindness before winning. The rest of the cabin quickly recognized what a thoughtful gesture it was. Throughout the week, we saw similar examples of friendship and growth as campers encouraged one another, welcomed new friends, and stepped outside their comfort zones. Many campers began activities by watching from the sidelines, but with encouragement from their counsellors and peers, they joined in and discovered new interests and abilities.
Our specialist activities provided plenty of opportunities for exploration, creativity, and active fun. Science with Malibu was a clear favourite this week as campers created colourful volcanoes using vinegar, baking soda, and food colouring. There were lots of excited reactions as the mixtures bubbled and erupted, bringing a hands-on science experiment to life. In Nature with Shimmer, campers planted cress heads and learned about what seeds need in order to grow and thrive. The Bunnies also stayed active through Sports with Jay, where they practiced teamwork, movement skills, and cooperation through a variety of games. Caregivers may enjoy asking their campers: “What colour did you make your volcano, and how did you make it explode?” or “How did you plant your seed, and what does it need to grow?”
This week’s unit-wide program transformed the Bunnies into Junior Palaeontologists during our Dino Detectives adventure. Campers worked together to examine fossil clues and identify which dinosaur each fossil belonged to. Once they solved the mystery, they completed a challenge inspired by that dinosaur. They carefully navigated obstacle courses while balancing beanbags on their heads like the plates of a Stegosaurus, raced to gather leaves like hungry Triceratops, built towering structures to match the impressive height of a Brachiosaurus’ neck, and attempted tasks using only “T-Rex arms.” Throughout the program, campers collaborated to solve clues, support one another through challenges, and celebrate each success. By the end of Hop Hop Horray, every Bunny had officially earned the title of Junior Palaeontologist and was incredibly proud of their accomplishments. Another special moment came from B1, where campers created a unique cabin sign using individual wooden pieces to symbolize the importance of each member contributing to their community. The sign quickly became a source of pride and was carried throughout the week as a special line leader responsibility.
While the Bunnies did not take home any Schmooze victories this week, they demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, and enthusiasm in every event they participated in. We would also like to congratulate Blake C. in B1, Sofia in B2, and Mila in B4 for earning the Big Chair this week. These campers were recognized for demonstrating qualities such as kindness, responsibility, thoughtfulness, and helpfulness toward others. We are proud of the positive example they set for their fellow campers. We also had Eila in B3 take home a Silly Banana for her awesome Friday costume.
Staff Celebration Moment: Quail
Quail’s genuine care for each and every camper helps make camp a welcoming and supportive place. Beyond making sure campers are staying hydrated and cared for throughout the day, she consistently encourages them to try new experiences and build confidence in themselves. Quail takes the time to get to know each camper as an individual, helping them feel valued, included, and supported. Her kindness, patience, and enthusiasm have made a meaningful impact on the campers in B3, and we are grateful for everything she brings to the AV Family.
