This week in Bunnies was full of the kinds of moments that make camp feel like camp: cheering loudly for a friend, trying something new, learning together, and forming friendships that we hope will last far beyond this summer. One of the sweetest moments came on Friday during the Big Chair announcements. When B3’s LIT, Sophie, was announced as a Big Chair winner, B3 immediately erupted in excitement. Campers rushed to give Sophie hugs and high-fives, celebrating her big moment right alongside her. And as the week came to an end, we saw that same sense of connection in all the big hugs and “I can’t wait for next summer!” goodbyes and “wait just one more hug before you go” It is so exciting to watch the beginnings of lifelong camp friendships take shape.
Our specialist activities gave Bunnies plenty of opportunities to create, explore, and get curious. In Arts & Crafts with Vine, campers made sensory “I Spy” jars, filling them with objects they chose themselves, including sparkly pom-poms and gems. In Nature with Shimmer, campers headed out on a toy bug hunt and learned about different bugs commonly found around them. Sports with Jay brought laughter, teamwork, and the chance for Bunnies to try new things and cheer each other on. Caregivers can keep the conversations going at home by asking, “What did you find on your bug hunt?” and “What did you add to your I Spy jar?” You may be surprised by which little detail from the activity your camper remembers most.
Our unit program tied into our “Sky’s the Limit” theme as we explored the fascinating world of insects. Bunnies learned about fireflies and bioluminescence, discovering how these tiny insects can actually produce their own light. We also talked about ants and how they work together to carry food – a great example of how much more we can accomplish when everyone contributes and practiced with our own relay race. The butterfly life cycle became a hands-on teamwork activity as campers sorted different stages – eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and butterflies—and worked together to put the pieces in order while learning what happens at each stage. We finished with a fun ladybug craft, where the Bunnies could let their imaginations run wild. The Bunnies loved learning about these awesome creatures and conversations about our favourite insects continued throughout the week.
Schmooze brought plenty of excitement to the week as well. Fizz and Burmy both advanced in Wednesday Warrior, and Burmy chose Alessandra as her model for the tiebreaker round. The two worked so well together, and B1 was thrilled to cheer their counsellors on. Their excitement was contagious, and they are already looking forward to next Wednesday to see what happens next. We also had a wonderful collection of Big Chair celebrations: Beth in B4, Henry in B1, and Mia in B3. While Beth’s fellow campers were cheering her on in B4, one camper told their counsellor, “I knew she would win because she is so kind and respectful.” We are so proud of all of their kindness, inclusion, and for helping make camp a positive place for everyone.
We also celebrated Aria’s (B3) birthday, and she chose Newt to cup in the face. All of B3 was so excited to celebrate her special day together!
Staff Celebration Moment: Cilantro
This week’s staff shout out goes to Cilantro, who brings such a calm and steady presence to B3. Cilantro has a wonderful way of making each camper feel valued. She takes the time to get to know the Bunnies as individuals and builds genuine connections with them, while also encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones and try new activities. Bunnies 3 know they always have someone in their corner, cheering them on. That combination of patience, kindness, and encouragement is so special and we are so grateful for the care Cilantro brings to her campers each day.
Caregiver Question of the Week
Can you please clarify the time window for drop off?
Drop Off takes place from 8:45AM – 9:15AM.
Our Kiss and Ride drop off begins at 8:45AM. Families who arrive earlier are welcome to wait inside or outside their vehicle. For those wanting earlier drop off, morning care is available from 8:00AM!
Our Kiss and Ride drop off ends promptly at 9:15AM. If you are dropping off your camper later than 9:15AM, please park in the FRONT parking lot (the one with all the columns) and give us a call. We will come collect your child! Please do not walk your child across the West parking lot if you arrive after 9:15AM. Once our staff remove our stanchion walkway, the space belongs to the bike camp.
