LITs Week 6

This marks the first week of the August LIT program, and so far we are off to a LITerrific start! Our week focused on building community, confidence, and communication skills. The LITs spent lots of time forming new bonds, but by far the most effective way was by playing countless rounds of Uno! The LITs could be heard laughing and joking around all over camp. When they weren’t bonding the LITs were learning about the different kinds of communication and why they’re important. Workshops such as “Minefield” and “Silent Lineup” put the LITs communication skills to the test. However, those games were no match for the strong communication skills of the LITs!

LITs attended Music Fest this week, which is a program full of camp songs for the Bunnies and Froggies groups. This week the LITs attended to help out younger groups during the program. The LITs started to flex their leadership muscles by helping the younger campers sing along! Camp was buzzing with talk of how enthusiastic the LITs were. We can’t wait to see them perform at Music Fest next week.

This week, there was one Big Chair winner from the Land of the LITs! A Big Chair is awarded to campers who demonstrate awesome qualities that fall under the two pillars of AV, which are building community and growth mindset. This week our Big Chair winner demonstrated a ton of awesome qualities including a growth mindset, kindness, and leadership. Congratulations, Keiran!

Staff Celebration Moment: Mojo

Mojo has been a key player in making this week a great one for the LITs. She has helped the LITs learn new skills and gain some confidence. Mojo has fostered a strong sense of community within the group; making the Land of the LITs one of the best places to be at AV!

Caregiver Question of the Week

How do you choose Silly Banana winners?

Each week, the Leadership Team meets to determine who will win a Silly Banana. We don’t take this responsibility lightly – we know that campers (and their caregivers) put in lots of work to win! There is often heavy debate and negotiations involved 🙂

Winners are chosen based on creativity of concept, execution, and effort by the camper. We encourage caregivers to reinforce to campers that we make costumes for the fun of making them – not to win!
