This week in Tigers felt like one of those rare weeks where everything seemed to connect: games, creativity, and quiet moments of kindness all weaving together into a group that genuinely looked out for one another. One of the clearest snapshots of that came during a high-energy game of “Everyone Is It” tag. The whole group was running in every direction, trying to outmaneuver one another, when two Tigers tagged each other at the exact same time. There was a split-second pause, and then, without any counsellor prompting, they immediately agreed to settle it with rock-paper-scissors. They laughed, accepted the outcome, and kept playing. What stood out even more was that other campers noticed and began copying that same spirit of fairness and lightheartedness in their own play. It was a small moment, but it captured something bigger: a group learning how to navigate excitement, competition, and friendship all at once.
That sense of connection showed up again throughout the week in both calm and active moments. In boondoggling, which has become a favourite but challenging activity for the Tigers, one camper stepped into a leadership role by patiently helping others start their projects, demonstrating techniques, and encouraging campers when they felt frustrated, leading to several “aha” moments where campers suddenly gained confidence after being guided step by step. In Nature, campers explored nature through tracing drawings of maple keys, leaves, and rocks, with one especially creative moment coming when a camper pressed their paper directly against a tree trunk to capture its texture. This same spirit of focus and encouragement carried into archery, where campers worked on building their aim and confidence, and into Gaga Ball, where even in competitive, fast-paced games, campers consistently showed strong sportsmanship and encouraged one another throughout.
During Sizzle’s Shenanigans, our weekly unit time that was themed around Sizzle’s dream summer birthday party. Campers kicked things off with Cross Canada warm-ups, working strategically to get counsellors out, before rotating through Gaga Ball, cornhole, and ladder golf. T1 stood out in ladder golf, while T3 shined in cornhole, with everyone cheering each other on throughout. Afterward, campers designed their own birthday party invitations before gathering around the birthday wheel, where prizes included Freezie Friday, a Tuesday Trivia point, temporary tattoos, stickers, and a camp dance with unit heads. Freezie Friday sparked the biggest reaction: jumping, cheering, and pure excitement. One camper chose to share their temporary tattoo prize with others, a small but meaningful moment of generosity. The session ended in full celebration, with campers jumping, laughing, and sharing a big group hug with Sizzle.
That same sense of celebration carried into Schmooze this week. T3 won Tuesday Trivia, and Ghost participated in Thursday Thingy through dodgeball. A big congratulations goes to Giuseppe for winning the Big Chair. This week also marked a special milestone as Jacob, Ben, Izzy, Amélie, and Hannah became the first campers ever to receive 5-year tags at camp, a moment that was met with huge pride, excitement, and cheering from the whole group. Three-year Turtle Charms were awarded to Giuseppe, Kawai, Evan, Rita, Nick, and Natalie. Silly Bananas were awarded to Amélie, Hannah, Max, Juliet, and Kennedy for their creative costumes.
Staff Celebration Moment: Mojo!
A special mention goes to Mojo, whose thoughtful planning and care shaped so much of the Tigers’ experience this week. From designing CIAs like the birthday bash to taking time to truly know each camper as an individual, Mojo brings a level of intentionality that the campers feel every day. She consistently encourages them to try their best while still prioritizing joy, and it shows in the way campers step into activities with confidence and excitement. Her presence helps create an environment where every child feels seen, supported, and capable of success.
