Summerween was in full swing this week, and the Froggies had such a fun week getting into the spooky spirit! With only two cabins this week, everyone got to spend a lot more time together, and it was really nice to see how quickly the campers became comfortable with each other and made new friends. Throughout the week, there were so many little moments of campers encouraging each other during games, helping someone try something new, or simply asking, “Can I help?” and joining in. Between all of the jokes, games, and time spent together, it felt like the Froggies really got the chance to know each other and enjoy being one big group.
We kept busy with lots of different activities throughout the week. In Sports with Jay, the Froggies got moving with different ball games and had lots of fun playing and working together. In Arts and Crafts with Vine, campers made their own puzzles using popsicle sticks, which brought out some great creativity and problem-solving. It was fun watching them come up with their ideas, figure out how to turn them into a puzzle, and even help each other when someone needed an extra hand. There was some really great cooperation happening throughout the week, and the Froggies had lots of opportunities to use their imaginations while still just playing and having fun together.
Summerween really came to life during Ribbit Recess with Lizard, when the Froggies headed out on a Halloween passport scavenger hunt! Campers travelled between the Bat Bakery, Witch’s Cottage, Ghost Hotel, Skeleton Gym, Candy Factory, Spider School, and Pumpkin Police, completing a different challenge at every stop to earn a stamp in their passport. They added ingredients to a witch’s cauldron, made it through a giant spider web, hunted for a missing pumpkin, and more. The campers were very serious about filling up those passports, and it was so amazing watching them work together, share ideas, and help each other through the different challenges. Once they completed their adventure, they even discovered that the witch had left some stickers and bouncy balls behind as a reward!
At Schmooze this week, we kicked off the August round of Wednesday Warrior, with both Dream (F2) and Spike (F1) advancing to the next round of the competition.
Thursday Thingies brought a friendly competition as well: a Jr. vs. Sr. Camp Soccer Match! Lizard, Daisy, Fizz, and Echo represented Jr Camp, and did a fantastic job! It was a close game, but Sr. Camp managed to take the win in the end.
Of course, we have one more Froggie to celebrate: a huge congratulations to Jemima (F2) for winning a Silly Banana this week!
Staff Celebration Moment
This week’s staff shoutout goes to Dream! Dream has such a calm and steady presence in the Froggies and is someone who always seems to have things handled. She runs a tight ship while still keeping a great attitude and making camp fun for her campers. She’s also really good at noticing when a camper needs a little extra care and quietly making sure they get it. Dream is reliable, level-headed, and simply really good at what she does — we’re very lucky to have her!
Caregiver Question of the Week
How do you choose Silly Banana winners?
Each week, the Leadership Team meets to determine who will win a Silly Banana. We don’t take this responsibility lightly – we know that campers (and their caregivers) put in lots of work to win! There is often heavy debate and negotiations involved 🙂
Winners are chosen based on creativity of concept, execution, and effort by the camper. We encourage caregivers to reinforce to campers that we make costumes for the fun of making them – not to win!
