Bunnies Week 6

This week was full of laughter, creativity, teamwork, and so many moments that reminded us what makes the Bunnies so special. One of my favourite moments happened during our Junior Camp vs. Senior Camp Staff soccer game. The game was a close one, with Junior Camp giving it their all and narrowly losing 2–3. As soon as the game ended, almost all of B3 came running over to me with the biggest smiles on their faces. They had gathered flowers and leaves they found on the ground and brought them over as a special surprise. They told me, “You almost won!” and reminded me that they had been cheering as loudly as they could the whole game. Hearing campers yell encouragement, celebrate each other with high-fives, and come together to support their team was such a special reminder that being a Bunny is about so much more than winning. It is about kindness, friendship, and sticking together through every experience – whether we win or lose. This same spirit has been seen all week long as Bunnies cheer each other on during activities, sports, and games, always making sure their friends feel supported.

Our Bunnies had an exciting week exploring, creating, and learning through their specialist activities! During Science with Malibu, campers became little scientists as they created density jars and investigated what happens when different substances are combined. Before creating their jars, campers made predictions about what they thought would happen and then tested their ideas to see if the substances would mix together or separate into different layers. It was amazing to see their curiosity as they watched their predictions come to life and discovered that sometimes science can surprise us!

In Nature with Shimmer, campers celebrated an “Animal Party” by creating their own animal masks and learning more about how animals live together in the wild.

During Arts and Crafts with Vine, campers explored the seasons through the story A Stroll Through the Seasons by Kay Barnham. After reading the story, they created a four-seasons inspired craft that celebrated the changes we see throughout the year.

Some questions to ask your camper this week:

  • What animal did you make in Nature, and what is that animal like in the wild?
  • What layers did you find in your density jar? Did any of them mix together?

This week, all of the Bunny groups came together for a special Summerween celebration! Campers decorated pumpkin sheets, played fun Halloween-themed games, and even had a surprise visitor join the party — Daisy the Witch flew in to celebrate with the Bunnies!

The Bunnies loved showing off their dance moves and pretending to be different Halloween characters. Campers crawled like spiders, danced like witches flying through the sky, and had so much fun being silly together. It was a wonderful opportunity for all of our Bunny groups to spend time together, build connections, and enjoy some Summerween magic.

The Bunnies had another exciting week of Schmooze events!

Congratulations to B2, who won Tuesday Trivia! We are also cheering on Burmy and Fizz, who both advanced in the new August round of Wednesday Warrior! B1 is especially excited to see both of their counsellors continue in the competition and will be cheering them on every step of the way.

Thursday Thingy brought us our Junior Camp vs. Senior Camp soccer game. Campers cheered for Junior camp and it was an exciting camp wide event.

We also celebrated Dogyeom’s birthday at schmooze on Tuesday. He chose Malibu to cup in the face, and B1 had so much fun celebrating Dogyeom’s special day!

On Friday, Eila and Isla won a Silly Banana for their awesome duo costume. Our Big chair winners this week were Helena (B1) and Albert (B2); we are so proud of your kindness bravery, and growth seen this week.

Staff Celebration Moment: Swan

This week’s staff shout out goes to Swan! Swan is an incredible part of the Bunny Unit and brings so much kindness, responsibility, and enthusiasm to everything she does. She works hard to make sure every camper feels like they truly belong in their “Bunnies 2 crew.” Whether she is encouraging campers to try a new activity, helping them make new friends, or creating amazing programming for her cabin, Swan always finds ways to make each camper feel included and special. We are so lucky to have her in our Bunny family!

Caregiver Question of the Week

How do you choose Silly Banana winners?

Each week, the Leadership Team meets to determine who will win a Silly Banana. We don’t take this responsibility lightly – we know that campers (and their caregivers) put in lots of work to win! There is often heavy debate and negotiations involved 🙂

Winners are chosen based on creativity of concept, execution, and effort by the camper. We encourage caregivers to reinforce to campers that we make costumes for the fun of making them – not to win!
