Tigers Week 5

Theme: Game On!
This week, the Tigers pressed start on an epic week of camp! From designing their own Mario Karts, to crafting dice-themed slime, or having a corn hole battle, the Tigers had a blast leveling up in every activity. Our Quality of the Week was confidence, and the Tigers showed just how powerful it can be to believe in yourself. Whether stepping up in front of the group, taking risks in new challenges, or sharing bold ideas, our campers showed courage and pride in who they are. One especially powerful moment stood out: earlier in the summer, one of our campers took a tumble that left her feeling nervous about joining in on physical activities. For a few days, she chose to sit out, worried about getting hurt again. But this week, she faced that fear head-on. With determination in her voice, she turned to her counsellors and said, “I’m going to do it, and I’m going to be okay.” Then, with bravery and a big smile, she jumped right into Kangoo Kids, bouncing with joy and showing everyone what true confidence looks like in action.

The Tigers had an action-packed week filled with awesome activities and nonstop fun. They bounced high in Kangoo Kids, battled it out in Gaga Ball, and showed off their creativity by sculpting their favorite video game characters out of fimo. In Quacking Quests, they got silly and imaginative, putting on their own hilarious play with a very special guest, Ducky! Campers also took aim in archery, explored their artistic side in arts and crafts, and learned the classic camp skill of boondoggling, weaving colorful strings into cool keychains and bracelets. Whether they were performing, creating, or competing, the Tigers brought energy, imagination, and tons of spirit to everything they did!

This week during Sizzle’s Shenanigans, our weekly unit time hit next level as we brought the magic of board and video games to life! Campers didn’t just play games; they became the games. We kicked things off with a series of rotating real-life game stations, where each activity was inspired by a fan-favourite classic. In our first station, campers geared up for a hilarious, hands-on version of Angry Birds. Armed with makeshift slingshots (a.k.a. spoons and ping pong balls), players took aim at towers built from cups and boxes, each labeled with different point values. Next up: the classic mystery game with a camp twist! Campers played Guess Who, but instead of guessing cartoon characters, they were solving the mystery of which counsellor or specialist they were. At our third station, campers got their creative juices flowing in a lively round of Live Action Pictionary. One player from each cabin would take center stage, drawing iconic video game characters. From Mario to Pikachu to Minecraft Steve, while their teammates shouted out guesses.

After competing the stations, the Tigers leveled up with a design your own board game challenge. Each cabin became its own game studio, brainstorming original ideas and building fully playable prototypes of board games. They sketched boards, wrote creative rules, designed characters and tokens, and even made game boxes! Campers showed incredible collaboration, critical thinking, and storytelling as they brought their visions to life. Once the games were finished, it was time to hit play! Cabins swapped creations and tested each other’s games, giving feedback, laughing, and showing tons of enthusiasm for their friends’ creativity.

The Tigers’ community is stronger than ever! From the moment camp kicked off on Monday, our campers began showing what it means to create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive space for everyone. One moment that stood out happened right on the first day. A camper arrived with a deck of Uno cards tucked into his backpack. He didn’t know anyone yet, but instead of waiting for someone to approach him, he took a brave first step. Sitting down in the gym, he pulled out his cards and began quietly setting up a game. One by one, curious campers walked over. With a big smile, he invited them in. “Want to join?” he asked, again and again, until the group grew into a full circle of new friends. Without realizing it, that camper had created a moment that captured the spirit of the Tigers, kindness, courage, and inclusivity.

We celebrated lots of Tigers during award time this week! The Tigers had five Silly Banana winners this week, each recognized for going above and beyond with handmade and imaginative costumes. Arielle transformed into  Princess Peach, complete with balloons fit for royalty. Izzy become a life sized Pac-Man, chomping her way through camp. Amélie amazed everyone as a real life version of Operation, complete with working sound effects. Aria was a Pac-Man machine, bringing retro arcade vibes to camp. Ben turned heads with his fully playable Tic-Tac-Toe game! We also had two Big Chair winners awarded to campers who consistently model what it means to be a leader at camp through their actions and attitude. Lucas earned his spot for showing outstanding respect, kindness, and responsibility all week long. Matteo was recognized for his inclusivity, empathy, and positivity, always making sure everyone felt welcome!

Staff Shoutout: Arrow

Each week, we love to shine the spotlight on one of our incredible staff members who goes above and beyond—and this week, it’s Arrow! Arrow wears many hats here at camp: not only is he our skilled recording specialist, capturing all the special moments, but he’s also the Tigers’ Cabin Care Bear. What truly sets Arrow apart is the deep connections he forms with each camper. He has a natural way of making everyone feel seen and valued, always ready with a kind word or a listening ear. Arrow’s helping hand is always there, quietly making camp life smoother and happier for everyone. We’re so grateful to have Arrow on our team, bringing heart, warmth, and dedication to the Tigers every single day!

Caregiver Question of the Week

Q: Can I send my camper with extra snacks?

A: Yes! While we provide two snacks and a lunch each day, you’re welcome to send along additional snacks for your camper, as long as they are nut free.
