Another incredible week has come to a close with the Tigers, and what a week it was! Although the smoke kept us indoors for much of the week, you never would have known it from the campers’ attitudes. Rather than feeling disappointed, the Tigers embraced every change with flexibility and positivity, adapting activities, making the most of every space, and continuing to bring their enthusiasm wherever we went. One of the best examples of this came during CYOA, when two Tigers groups shared half of the gym. Without being asked, campers made room for one another, tossed stray balls back and forth between Gaga Ball and Dodgeball, and worked together to ensure everyone could enjoy their activities. It was a wonderful display of respect, teamwork, and community. By Friday afternoon, the excitement was impossible to miss as we were finally able to return to the soccer field. Cheers erupted as the entire unit gathered outside, and before long, campers of all ages were playing one giant game of soccer together. Seeing everyone reunited outdoors after such an adaptable week was a moment none of us will soon forget.
This week’s CYOA activities offered something for everyone. Campers explored science by designing boats and testing just how many bears they could hold before sinking, while others crafted colourful beaded butterflies, created personalized shrinky dinks, sculpted with Fimo clay, played basketball and Gaga Ball, and spent time making the ever-popular boondoggle creations. One of the highlights was seeing campers proudly wearing their shrinky dinks and butterflies around camp, eager to show off what they had made. We were also thrilled to get outside for archery, where many campers celebrated their very first bullseyes. Soccer Week continued with an exciting game of Soccer Baseball led by Arrow, blending two favourite sports into one energetic activity that had campers laughing and cheering throughout.
During this week’s Sizzle’s Shenanigans, the Tigers fully embraced our Soccer Week theme by creating their very own countries. Each cabin worked together to invent a country name, elect a Prime Minister, design matching soccer jerseys, and write an original national anthem. The highlight of the week came when each country performed its anthem for the rest of the unit. It was incredible to watch every performance met with loud applause, cheers, and encouragement from fellow campers. Whether they were singing confidently or stepping outside their comfort zones, every group felt supported. A special shout-out goes to T1 for their creative Sizzle-themed country! The pride campers showed in their creations and the way they celebrated one another’s efforts, perfectly reflected what makes the Tigers such a strong community.
Congratulations to Pacific, who is still competing in Wednesday Warrior! The entire Tigers unit has been enthusiastically cheering him on, and we can’t wait to see how the competition unfolds. We are also excited to celebrate this week’s milestone recipients. Congratulations to Zoha, Ava, Vian, and Ava on earning their 3-Year Turtle Charms, and to Amira, Layla, Logan, and Emma for receiving their 5-Year Charms. This week’s Silly Banana Awards went to Zoey and Amélie, while our Big Chair Awards were presented to Javier and Lauren. Congratulations to all of our award recipients for helping make the Tigers community such a positive place!
Staff Celebration Moment: Pylon!
This week’s staff spotlight goes to Pylon. One of Pylon’s greatest strengths is the genuine relationships he builds with campers. He takes the time to get to know each child individually, making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and at home. Whether he is playing a game of cornhole, chatting with campers throughout the day, or simply making sure everyone has someone to laugh with, Pylon consistently goes above and beyond to ensure campers feel happy and included. We are so grateful to have him as part of the Tigers team and know the positive impact he has on so many campers each day.
Caregiver Question of the Week
Q: How are decisions made regarding air quality and indoor programming?
A: We use Air Quality Ontario’s website to monitor their hourly air quality health index ratings. For low risk ratings we continue the programming as normal. We modify programs at moderate risk levels (kids only being outside for half an hour doing an activity with no physical exertion). We move all programming indoors at high and very high risk levels.
