Spooky: Office Administrator (She/Her)
 
👻SPOOKY👻 returns to camp this summer reprising her role as our Office Administrator, where she serves as the friendly face and voice of Adventure Valley.
 
Spooky is known for her lightning-fast work pace; she can accomplish a full day’s tasks in a mere twenty-five minutes. It’s no wonder she has become the go-to person for quick solutions and timely responses. Whether you need help over the phone or through email, Spooky’s expertise and dedication will ensure that you receive the assistance you require promptly.
 
Last summer, Spooky won the Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing her unwavering commitment and invaluable contributions to the AVDC community over the past six years.
 
When she’s not at camp, you’ll find Spooky discovering and rating malls across Ontario, or re-watching the Nightmare Before Christmas. She can’t wait for another summer with our fantastic team of campers and staff!
Sparrow: Bunnies Unit Head & Head of Sunshine (She/Her)
 
⚓️SPARROW⚓️, our Bunnies Unit Head and Head of Sunshine, is a beloved member of the Adventure Valley Day Camp Staff. She has served an impressive six summers with AV, and has been a driving force behind making AV such an inclusive, nurturing and welcoming environment for campers of all ages and abilities.
 
Sparrow is known for her unwavering commitment to each individual’s wellbeing and growth. Her genuine compassion and attentiveness make her an exceptional role model, providing campers with the support they need to thrive. With her deep understanding of the unique needs of young campers, she ensures that each child feels seen, heard, and valued. Sparrow’s nurturing nature creates a positive and inclusive atmosphere where campers can develop confidence, build meaningful connections, and embark on new adventures with a sense of security.
 
At the end of Summer 2022, Sparrow received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her dedication to the camp community, and all her contributions over the past six summers. She is an integral part of the AVDC Community, and our Bunnies are so excited to have her lead the way this summer!
Frizzle: Kangas Unit Head (She/Her)
 
🍎 FRIZZLE 🍎 is thrilled to be joining the Adventure Valley team. She is no stranger to the world of camp, working with children of various age groups, creating unforgettable experiences and fostering a love for outdoor adventures. With her background in camp settings and a Master’s degree in teaching, Frizzle has a deep understanding of the unique needs and interests of campers.
 
As the Unit Head for Kangas, Frizzle is committed to ensuring that your child’s experience at AV is nothing short of extraordinary. With her energetic and nurturing approach, she strives to create a safe and inclusive environment where campers can grow, develop new skills and forge lifelong friendships.
 
Frizzle has a passion for learning and teaching. As a primary French Immersion teacher, she has honed her skills in creating engaging and inclusive educational environments. Her ability to connect with children and ignite their curiosity has been a hallmark of her teaching career. She is currently teaching a Grade 3 class in the HDSB.
 
When she is not immersed in the camp and classroom atmosphere, you can find her with a book in hand, indulging in the power of storytelling and expanding her knowledge through literature. Music is also a significant part of her life, and she loves exploring different genres and attending live performances whenever she can.
Ducky: Tigers Unit Head (She/Her)
 
Say hello to AVDC’s new Tiger Unit Head, 🐥DUCKY🐥 (she/her)! Camp has been a joyous part of Ducky’s life since she was 7 years old. A place for growth, friendship, and fun – it was the ideal way to spend her summers- even in adulthood. With a love for camp cheers, sing-alongs, games, and nature walks she is ready to dive into the summer with camp spirit. Ducky is all about creating a safe and inclusive space where campers can unleash their creativity, build lifelong friendships, and discover new skills. With a wealth of unforgettable camp experiences, Ducky is eager to create those experiences for campers and counsellors at AVDC. Get ready for a summer filled with fun and adventure!
Nova: Leadership-in-Training (LIT) Program Co-ordinator: (She/Her)
 
Introducing 💫NOVA💫, a passionate camp staff ready to make a splash at AVDC. As a newcomer to AVDC, Nova brings a fresh perspective and enthusiasm for adventure. This year, she takes on the role of Leader-in-Training (LIT) Co-ordinator, eagerly preparing to welcome our young leaders to AVDC in just a couple of weeks. Recently, she secured her Bachelor of Education from Laurentian University. With this background, Nova will certainly bring a wealth of knowledge and warmth to AV!
 
In her free time, Nova indulges in various hobbies. You can find her immersed in the pages of captivating books, mastering the latest video games, or fearlessly trying new experiences. Her creativity and spirit shine through as she has been tirelessly working to design a well-rounded program that will engage and inspire the LITs. Get ready to embark on an unforgettable summer adventure with Nova at AVDC, where her adoration for learning, exploration, and fun will create cherished memories for everyone involved.

Marvel: Operations Co-ordinator (She/her)

🌟MARVEL🌟 returns to AVDC for her second summer! She joined the team last year as a Tigers Counsellor and she spent the summer spreading her positivity, joy and support throughout camp! This year as our Operations Coordinator, Marvel will be taking care of our buses, lunches and programming!

When she’s not at camp, Marvel is at Brock studying to become a teacher. Her plan is to teach History and Drama to high school students. If you are looking for Marvel, chances are you will find her watching a musical or a movie – probably superhero related! Her favourite superhero is Captain America. In fact, instead of labelling her items at camp, you’ll know you’ve found something of Marvel’s when you find the Captain America shield!

Socks: Bunnies Assistant Unit Head (She/her)

A lover of all things camp, 🧦 SOCKS 🧦 has worked the last three summers as a camp counsellor in Guelph, and is super excited to join the AVDC family this year!

At camp, you can usually find Socks passionately singing camp songs or trying out new arts and crafts. Socks has always gravitated towards the littlest campers, and is so looking forward to spending her summer in the Bunny Unit!

 

Socks graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in English and is hoping to one day be an elementary school teacher. When she’s not at camp, you can find her listening to many Taylor Swift songs, re-watching New Girl for the hundredth time, or trying to learn how to crochet.

Lizard: Kangas Assistant Unit Head (She/her)

🦎 LIZARD🦎 is thrilled to return for her second summer at AVDC, and this time she’s taking on the role of Kangas Assistant Unit Head! She’s super excited to support her awesome staff and campers while also planning fun activities to make sure everyone has an unforgettable summer. Last year, Lizard joined the team as a Kangas counsellor and quickly earned a reputation for her unwavering resilience and contagious “We’ve got this!” spirit!

When she’s not at camp, Lizard can be found immersing herself in her passion for the arts as a Drama and History student at Brock University. She’s determined to become an amazing high school teacher, inspiring students with her love for these subjects. But that’s not all! Lizard is also a talented musician who can play multiple instruments. Her favourite challenge is mastering new and tricky songs on her trusty guitar. And when she’s not strumming away, you’ll likely catch her playing with her adorable dog or experimenting in the kitchen, testing out delicious new recipes!

 

Doc: First Aid Officer (He/Him)

Meet 🩹DOC🩹, Adventure Valley’s First Aid Officer! 

Having just completed all of his exams, Doc will be spending the summer at Adventure Valley before he begins his professional career as a Paramedic this fall. This summer, Doc eagerly anticipates the opportunity to engage with campers and staff, fostering an environment of enjoyment and safety. 

Doc is an avid reader, and his current favourite books include Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time, and the Red Rising trilogy. He also loves gaming — his favourite game of all time is Skyrim!
